George Plimpton, the self-deprecating author of Paper Lion and a patron to Philip Roth, Jack Kerouac and countless other writers, has died. He was 76.Plimpton died Thursday night at his Manhattan apartment, his longtime friend, restaurateur Elaine Kaufman, said Friday. I saw him the other day. He was full of energy, said Kaufman, who said she had known Plimpton for 40 years. He was talking about a trip he took with his family to the tip of South America. Praised as a central stanley water bottle figure in American letters when inducted in 2002 to the Amer stanley flask ican Academy stanley cup of Arts and Letters, Plimpton also enjoyed a lifetime of making literature out of nonliterary pursuits. For Paper Lion, the slightly built and silver-tongued Plimpton played for a season with the Detroit Lions. He also boxed with Archie Moore, pitched to Willie Mays and performed as a trapeze artist for the Clyde Beatty-Cole Brothers Circus. He acted in numerous films, including Reds and Good Will Hunting. He even appeared in an episode of The Simpsons, playing a professor who runs a spelling bee.But writers appreciated Plimpton for The Paris Review, the quarterly he helped found nearly in 1953 and ran for decades with eager passion. The magazine s high reputation rested on two traditions: publishing the work of emerging authors, including Roth and Kerouac, and an unparalleled series of interviews in which Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner and others discussed their craft.T Rhsx How to protect yourself from gas pump skimmers
Then-FBI Director James Comey knew that a critical piece of information relating to the investigation into Hillary Clinton s email was fake -- created by Russian intelligence -- but he feared that if it became public it would undermine the probe and the Justice Department itself, according to multiple officials with knowledge of the process. As a result, Comey acted unilaterally last summer to publicly declare the investigation over -- without consulting then-Attorney General Loret samba rose ta Lynch -- while at the same time stating that Clinton had been extremely careless in her handling of classified information. US officials now tell CNN that Comey and FBI officials actually knew early on that this intelligence was indeed false. In fact, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe went to Capitol Hill Thursday to push back on the notion that the FBI was duped, according to a source familiar with a meeting McCabe had with members of the Senate intelligence committee. The Russian intelligence at issue purported to show that then-Attorney General Lynch had been compr salomon speedcross omised in the Clinton investigation. “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu couldn’t attend the film’s premiere in Los Angeles, and the reason is quite “wonderful.”

Chu shared on his Instagram Stories that he and his wife Kristin Hodge welcomed their fifth child on Saturday, writing that he “can’t believe this happened while the movie is premiering.”

“Magic is in the air,” he wrote, sharing a photo of Hodge holding their newborn daughter.

He added a note to his new addition: “Welcome to our world, you’re gonna do great. You have a lot of witches on your side.”

“Wicked” stars singer Ariana Grande and Oscar-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo star as witches Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. The two-part movie is a cinematic adaptation of the famed Broadway musical, which is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” and tells an alternate version of events in Oz before Dorothy’s arrival.
Chu may not have been able to physically attend the premiere but his presence was felt.

According to footage from inside the theater posted online, a video of Chu speaking from the hospital was played before the movie began.

“I’ve waited for three years to have this moment to share a movie with you but I’ve waited my whole life to have this moment, to have a fifth child right now,” he said in the video, as the audience was heard collectively “aww-ing” at the sentiment.

With a laugh, Chu added that “of course, this little girl knows when to show up.”

Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Ethan Slater, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum round out the ensemble cast.

Part one of “Wicked” will soar in theaters on November 22. The second film is expected in November 2025.

Dollar Tree said it is considering a sale or other disposition of its Family Dollar store chain. The discount store foreshadow stanley quencher ed the potential move last year when it said it was planning a comprehensive review of its Family Dollar portfolio and closed nearly 1,000 of its underperforming store locations under both brands. However, the company simultaneously opened about 1,200 new Dollar Tree-Family Dollar combo stores in rural towns that had limited retail options, with plans to open hundreds more in coming years. Its not clear if those plans for more combination stores are still in the works or what would happen to those stores if a sale or spinoff of Family Dollar moved forward.Dollar Tree said there is no timetable for when the review of strategic alternatives for Family Dollar will be completed. Our goal is to position both the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar banners to progress further and faster, and to determine whether the exclusive attention of a dedicated team will benefit both, while creating value for Dollar Tree shareholders and stanley cup other stakeholders, said Dollar Tree CEO and Chairman Rick Dreiling in a statement.
