3. A Head Temple-Honzan
The temple in charge of all the branch temples belonging to a Buddhist denomination. The Head Temple of HBS is Yuseiji temple located in Ichijo Dori, Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto. Yuseiji temple was formerly called Seiryu-zushi Honmonji and was founded by Saint Nichiben in the lst year of Enkei (1308). After many vicissitudes it was moved to Onmaedori (now the place of Saint Nissen's mausoleum) and was renamed Yuseiji. Saint Nissen procured it as HBS's Institute.
In the reign of Saint Nichijun the seventh Koyu, Yuseiji was moved to the present place. It took six years to build the main building of the temple and the priests' living quarters worthy of the name of the Head Temple.
