Fireworks and kimono girls
|
Imagine that almost all the passengers in a crowded train are women wearing beautiful kimonos. It really happens in Japan when fireworks are staged on the river Sumidagawa in Tokyo in midsummer. Young women wear Yukata, cotton kimono dyed with indigo, at summer events such as fireworks or at temple and shrine fairs known as ENNICHI, even though they wear western-style clothes for everyday life. They like to dress up. They want to look their most beautiful for their boyfriends or husbands.
