You don't have to wait for the summer! Just throw on this wonderful CD 
and play with our favorite Japanese band! We have long championed 
Luminous Orange's blend of ethereal pop through a number of remarkable 
demo tapes, and it was a treat to hear them make the jump to CD with 
their debut release, even if we were so used to the demo versions at that 
point that we found them preferable to the new ones! Waiting For The 
Summer is their second effort, and it shows clear improvements on all 
fronts. The impeccable songwriting and incredibly beautiful vocals of Rie 
Takeuchi, often mixed and harmonized on multiple layers, sparkle along a 
variety of exciting pathways liberally strewn with more melodic twists 
and turns than most bands (except maybe XTC and The High Llamas) have 
ever thought to try. It is really no wonder that she and Ian Masters 
(Pale Saints) have collaborated on a few songs (one on the last album and 
a single for Masters' own Friendly Science??? label). A new version of my 
personal favorite, "Garden Of Stones" (the original appears on Splashed 
With Many A Speck) creates a slightly different, less synchopated feel, 
and adds more charms to an exquisitely crafted song. Tremendously frosty 
heights are reached on "Key for Spring," while the jazzy "The White Moon"
shows an amazing amount of depth and maturity for a band still apparently 
in its teens. By the time the delicate "The Winter Sun" with its 
exceptionally well-placed strings, and tumbling melodic lines of "I Can't 
Move" sweep grandly past, I wish there were twice as much material here. 
If Rie and her bandmates continue creating such richly rewarding and 
phenomenally pleasant music as this, their futures look very bright

(Puppy Dog Mailについて)・・・これは日本のでPale Saintsのメンバーが参加してる(管理人注；実際はIan Mastersの声のサンプリングを使っただけで、制作には関わっていない)。かっこいい。でも音程感がなにか面白い。次の曲(注；Fresh Berry Soup)が面白い。スターフルーツ・サーフライダーにハットのパターンが似てる。好みなんだけど。ヘビーなのとボサノヴァっぽいのが普通にはいってて。(Cornelius, Marquee vol.10より抜粋)

You can not imagine the joy of Tatou in receiving a cassette from Japan.So,the good word of armadillo has now reached even our Japanese friends,who are as anxious over there to be listened to,as we are to listen to them over here. One of the best demos we've received in a long time,a cassette of Japan's Luminous Orange has a tendency to sound like our Orange virtually reborn.So,yes it's very good!The gorgeous female vocals,often harmonizing with themselves,sound classically trained,with a certain choir-like posture.There's a wide range of styles showing many and varied influences."December Sail" strums away noisily with a glossy atomasphere that should please dreampop folks."Snow Leopard" has an actively syncopated drum machine pattern,while the music churns with a fair amount of grittiness.Waltzing and gliding through the door comes "Gertrude"then"Ice Moon"goes strait for the juglar with a surprisingly harsh,edgy rasp."Burn Me Down" recalls Aberdeen's shiny,happy pop;and"Rose Petal Cake"reveals a defferent sort of retro-pop that I can't quite put my finger on.Finally,capping it off,"Fleece"quietly chimes with loveliness,with stargazing required.A second,more recent tape of three songs includes a fully produced version of "December Sail" with a live drummer,and their best song yet,"Garden Of Stones".It truly sounds almost exactly one of those "70's progressive rock band goes pop"kinds of songs,with Azure d'Or or Camera Camera era Renaissance being the most obvious reference points.Yes would be another.Compared to their other material,it sounds loke it came out of nowhere,and it's utterly delightful.The third offerling also departs rapidly from their others for an extended stay in the easy listening/ambient jazz corner.It's ok,but they should stick with thier other stuff.9 liles.
