第160回　課題文　解説 お待たせしました！ 今回は、 喜劇王チャールズ・チャプリン (1889-1977) の名作映画のひとつ、 「街の灯」を 歌舞伎「蝙蝠の安さん」に翻案して 上演したという話題です。 2019年12月４日から26日まで チャプリンの生誕130年と 命日の12月25日にちなんだ企画で 歌舞伎役者、 十代目松本幸四郎さんが 主人公の「蝙蝠の安さん」を演じました。 「街の灯」は 1931年に制作された 音楽だけが入った無声映画です。 アメリカでは 1931年に劇場公開されましたが 日本では それより３年遅く 1934年に公開されました。 ところが、日本では 1931年に すでに歌舞伎の演目「蝙蝠の安さん」が 上演されていました。 劇作家、木村錦花（きんか）氏が アメリカで上演中だった 「街の灯」の評判を聞きつけ、 そのストーリーをもとに 歌舞伎の演目を作ったのだそう。 今回の歌舞伎「蝙蝠の安さん」の上演は 88年ぶりの再演となります。 映画「街の灯」は チャプリン自らが 脚本、監督、制作、主演した コメディ映画です。 チャプリンは 山高帽にちょび髭という 例の「浮浪者」のいでたちで登場し、 街角で花を売っている 盲目の女性に一目惚れします。 女性に目の手術を受けさせる ためのお金を稼ごうと 賭けボクシングの試合で勝って 賞金を獲得することを思いつきます。 このボクシングのシーンは 歌舞伎版では 相撲のシーンに変わっています。 他にも、 チャプリンが口にくわえていた バラの花は 歌舞伎版では 菊の花（花言葉は「敗れた恋」） になっているなど 細々した変更はありますが、 心温まるストーリーであるところは 同じ。 チャプリンの大ファンを自認する 幸四郎さんは 歌舞伎版でも 涙あり、笑いありの 人情ドラマに仕上げています。 最近の歌舞伎は 「ワンピース」（主演、四代目市川猿之助） 「風の谷のナウシカ」（主演、五代目尾上菊之助） 「本朝白雪姫譚話」（主演、五代目坂東玉三郎）など 漫画やアニメからも 幅広く題材を求めて新作を発表し 果敢な挑戦を続けています。 応援がてら 歌舞伎を鑑賞に行って その熱いエネルギーを感じるのも いいでしょう。 さて、 訳出する際には、 幸四郎さんとお父さんの白鴎さんが 混乱しないように気をつけ、 幸四郎さんのせりふの箇所は できるだけ自然な語り口を 目指しました。 今回は応募者がなかったので 私の訳例だけ載せます。 あくまでも一例として 参考にして下さい。 尚、 「蝙蝠の安さん」のダイジェスト映像は ここで見られます。 ◆　第160回　課題文 　喜劇王チャーリー・チャプリン(1889-1977)の代表作「街の灯」が、歌舞伎「蝙蝠（こうもり）の安さん」に翻案され、上演されました。主人公の安さんを演じる十代目松本幸四郎さんが、この作品への思いを語ります。彼の熱い思いが伝わるように訳を工夫してください。 (1) Charlie Chaplin's masterpiece "City Lights" will be revived as a Kabuki play for the first time in nearly nine decades in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the silent-era film superstar's birth in December.
