The works of "First Pinhole Photographs"
in the show are my pinhole pictures taken, by trials and errors, from 1990
in which I first met pinhole photography to 1993 when I first made a solo
show in
Fuji Photo Salon and they have become the basis of my works afterwards.
In recent years I take pictures with 4 x
5 inch negative films and make them serially, but in the past years I tried
paper negatives, polaroids, films of 135 or 220 and so on. Although the
subjects remain Parisian landscapes and still life, I was then absorbed
by "how to take" pictures rather than "what to take",
making use of versatile characters of pinhole photography which a normal
camera does not have.
This time I present those works reprinted
and printed for the first time. At the occasion of the tenth anniversary
of my first show and also of the publication of my first manual book on
pinhole photography I can return to the starting point and review potentials
of pinhole photography.
I express my sincere thanks to Mrs. Urano,
who let me use a wonderful gallery and Mr. and Mrs. Yanagimoto, who planned
and prepared this show.
