The French word "Réflexion"
has the meaning of physical reflection including light as well as contemplation
and introspection. The plural form of réflextions also means a
thought, an opinion and a view. Reflex for reflex cameras, Reflet for reflected
figures, images and shadows, and Réflexe for conditional reflection
all have the same origin.
I first encounterd pinhole photography in
Paris 15 years ago, and since then I have been presenting a series of photographs,
mainly of the city of Paris, including famous historic sights. "What
is pinhole photography ?" and ""what can only be photographed
with pinhole photography?"
By chace, Paris became my subject, but there are
already countless images captured with ordinary cameras. By taking pinhole
photographs of the city familiar to people all over the world and comparing
them, I believe that the characteristics of pinhole photographs can be
made clear.
For this exhibition the works that have been
presented in series, such as "Another Point of View-Paris"(1995),
"Show-windows"(1998), including "Cimetery Père Lachaise"
and "Parisian passages" will be edited, and together with the
reflection of the light of Paris, I will present my "view" on
pinhole photography in the form of a summary.
