これまでのチェスの歴史の中で、「名局」と言われるのは多々ありますが、これは「名局中の名局」です。
なんと言っても副題がついています。その名も"Evergreen Game"。おー、かっこいい。
この対局は、トーナメントなどの公式戦ではなく、親善試合（？）として行われたようですが、それでも長年チェスファンにおいては熱狂的に支持された棋譜です。

ところで、この参考資料となった本（「THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST CHESS GAME」）ですが、いわゆる解説付き棋譜集で、しかも各棋譜に対して総括として"Lesson from this game（この棋譜から学べること）"が、3つずつ書いてあります。
そこで、下記にこの"Evergreen Game"から学べる3つのポイントを書いておきます。
ニュアンスの問題（私の英語力の問題）がありますので、そのまま書き写しておきます。
1）Play in the center has most effect than play on the wings - everyone knows this of course, but it is all too easily forgotton in the heat battle.
2）Always analyse variations with double checks extremely carefully - however improbable they may look.
3）Before playing a spectacular combination, check to see whether there is a simpler, safer way to win cleanly. Unless of course you want to play a brilliancy that is still being talked about a century ans a half late, in which case play the sacrifice and keep your fingers crossed! (And don't blame me if you follow that advice and go on to lose.)
