I ,for long time, had hated to travel to Hawaii. Why? Because, Hawaii has
ever been extremely popular to many Japanese and you would find so large
number of Japanese strolling the streets in Waikiki. I like foreign city
where I could find real exotic scenes, where I find not so many Japanese
tourists. One of the reason I hate where many Japanese tourists is that
ugliness of Japanese tourist in group. They often have no skill of communications
with local people and lack of large part of western common senses, moreover
lack of knowledge of our own, but with rather abundant money to spend.
They travel nearly everywhere in the world known as famous places. I knew
that all these make-shift upstart riches are not welcomed by the heart
of local people.
It was in December 1995, I first time went to Honolulu Hawaii to participate
23rd Honolulu Marathon. This trip to Hawaii made me an instant fan of Hawaii.
There was so pleasant atmosphere, warm temperature year around, friendly
people, tasty foods, safe and clean town, a lot of amusements, and beautiful
rich habitat nature. I had changed my mind since then. I do love Hawaii
quite a lot now. It even has healing effect to being there. I recall now
one scene on American movie “California Dream”, in the dialogue, Duke said,
“Sell out the shop, Sell out…. Let’s go to Hawaii.” Fake replied, "Hawaii?"
Duke, "Yes, Hawaii”
There must be a sound like paradise in Hawaii, where people becomes happy
whenever, wherever you come from. I certainly am sure now, that you would
be a fan of Hawaii once you visited there. If you take the bus paying only
one buck, now it became little more, you can reach deep into the Hawaiian
Island, where serene beauty of rich nature can be seen. My son married
to a lady in November 2000. They told us that they will have wedding ceremony
at Maui Hawaii. We all gave him and his wife to be open handed congratulation
and our heart filled with great pleasure that one of our dreams come true.
On the wedding day, I was in London on my business trip. I took short holidays
and flew from London to Narita where I met all relatives who were heading
to Hawaii to attend the ceremony. Traveling from London to Tokyo only,
is sometimes painstaking long one. Further continued travel without day-off
to Hawaii was sure enough tough one. But, to my honest, I did not feel
any fatigue on that extra long travel. Human being is made very well to
adjust one’s soul and body to suit one’s own favor and dislike. December
in each year, as the date of Honolulu Marathon approaches, the desire to
travel to Hawaii swells silently in my mind.
