[Non-Working Status of Residence (Landing Examination Criteria applicable)]
"College Student" (2 years or 1 year)
Activities for receiving education at colleges or equivalent educational institutions.
"Pre-college Student" (1 year or 6 months)
Activities for receiving education at high schools or vocational schools.
"Trainee" (1 year or 6 months)
Activities to learn and acquire technology, skills or knowledge at public or private organizations.
"Dependent" (3 years, 2 years, 1 year, 6 months or 3 months)
Daily activities of the spouse or unmarried minor child of foreigners staying in Japan with a status of residence, excluding "Diplomat", "Official", "Temporary Visitor", "Dependent" and "Designated Activities".
[Working or Non-Working Status of Residence to be judged individually (Landing Examination Criteria not applicable)]
"Designated Activities" (3 years, 1 year or 6 months)
Activities individually and specifically designated by the Minister of Justice.
[Civil Status and Position (No limitation on activities)]
"Permanent Resident" (indefinite)
Those who are permitted for permanent residence by the Minister of Justice.
"Spouse or Child of Japanese National" (3 years or 1 year)
Spouses of Japanese nationals and children who were born in Japan as a child of Japanese nationals or were specially adopted by Japanese nationals.
"Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident" (3 years or 1 year)
Spouses of permanent residents and children who were born in Japan as a child of permanent residents.
"Long Term Resident" (3 years or 1 year)
Those to whom the Minister of Justice authorizes to reside in Japan with considering special circumstances and designating the period of stay.
