The secret of progress

I will teach you traditional martial arts now. Here you move like this and there you move like this (I teach you from A to Z)….. Would you not be satisfied if you are not taught like this? [YES or NO]….. Which answer are you? Have you ever thought that [Because the teacher didn’t teach me, I can’t understand]? There is no progress if you don’t intend to learn voluntarily, this is not only traditional martial arts but also any skills.
.
When I was studying martial arts before, I always joined the class with thought that today is the last exercise of my life. It is the last exercise, so I can’t neglect even 1 second. Even when I got tired of work, or in bad condition, I was able to concentrate on the behavior of the master without distracting. Once I have thought I would fall for too much exercise.
There are students who learn together in the same class, but there were only the master and me in my consciousness from the beginning to the end of class, so I couldn't see other students around me at all. If I feel that the master is teaching to others, I approach him quickly, and I memorize master’s movements more than once. I think that I saw 99% of the master’s movements during the class time.

I have always been able to receive special guidance from masters who I studied so far. I think it because they understood my sincere consciousness to learning traditional martial arts from my attitude during practice time.
I don’t want to brag. I want you to improve. Even with exercise for the same one hour, it will become totally different from other practice time depending on your consciousness.
.
The master of Budo is very sensitive to your learning attitude. Therefore, there are things that you shouldn’t do to learning martial arts. If you do these, the master feels that he can't teach you martial arts, and he will lose his energy to teach to you.
.
For example, when you are learning from the master, if you take your eyes off the master's movements, it is like you say to the master like this. “I saw your move a little while ago, so I already understand it, even if you move together now, I wouldn’t for taking time to watch your movement. I am enough”. The master will hear the voice of your mind if you take your eyes off even for just a bit.
.
When you practice Kata with the master, if you move ahead of the master, “I don’t need to see your movements. Leave me alone. I just want to practice myself”. Your back tells that to the master, so master will lost half his power of teaching to you.

There are some people practice by themselves when the master is teaching, without any concern with the master…… ” I don’t need learn from you, because I can practice myself without you. I have nothing to learn from you”. …. !!?? It's the worst.
.
“Why? I paid money, and I just want to have fun. What's wrong with I doing it freely? Do you have any problems with it?". Certainly this is also a fair argument. Some people are satisfied with worked up a good sweat in exercise by themselves. I think this is also not a bad thing.
But if you want to improve martial arts even for just a bit, I will teach you how to become a good learner. That is to concentrate. Let's concentrate on the master's movements at least for the practice time. You shouldn’t practice with the intention of being taught by the master, you should practice with the intention of stealing technology from your master.
.
It is no wonder that master doesn't teach you. If the master took your hand and teach you, don’t you forget the sense of that technique. There's an old saying; reading a book a hundred times, you come to understand the contents without help.
Please you look at the master’s one form a hundred times also in practice martial arts. You shouldn’t practice a hundred times on your own method, you have to see the master's correct form a hundred times. If you execute it, you will know the result.
.
I made an effort to learning martial arts from my masters. Now I still have a relationship with masters in China, and I am continuing efforts to inherit valuable traditional techniques from masters.

Sato Kinbei sensei sometimes explained the following words. “Confucius said, "To learn and to review those you learned are pleasure”” (the Analects of Confucius). The word ”学ぶ(learn)” was made by changing the word ”真似る(imitate)". Originally it means to imitate the teacher.
The word ”習う(practice)” means that a baby bird watching a parent bird flying, and imitate a parent bird move feathers. You imitate your teacher at the class and practice it after returning home. “It seems simple, but this is the secret of progress”. I remember Sato sensei said like this.
.
Did you just good sweat in today's practice? Or could you stored a lot of nutrition in the seeds of martial arts in yourself? Did your master thought want to teach you martial arts in today's practice?
